Grass-fed Beef is Better at Cairns' Farm in Ardmore, TN.
Welcome to Cairns' Farm.
It is our goal to raise our cattle in sync with nature and the ways God intended.
We think that's important because properly raised cattle are healthier, happier and ultimately better for you.
Our cows have their calves in April and May after the spring growth of grass is well underway rather than during the winter as recommended by the universities. My wife assures me that it is more pleasant for both mother and baby when the baby is born on the lush green grass and reasonably mild temperatures. The calves then grow on mother’s milk, sunshine and grass until the mother weans the calf the following winter.
We rotate our pastures to try and provide good stewardship of the grass and other resources on the farm. We are really grass farmers who harvest our grass with cattle.
The animals entering our grass-fed beef program receive a vaccination for blackleg and are wormed one time in their life. They do not receive any other vaccinations or antibiotics. They NEVER receive a hormone pellet implant. They are never fed any grain. We harvest them during the late spring or fall while the grass is actively growing. Most are done during the fall as we believe that God has designed them to put on a little more fat in preparation for winter.
It is important to us to raise these animals as peacefully and gently as we know how. Any cattle that are nervous and excitable tend to leave here quickly. Research has also shown that quieter animals tend to have more tender meat.
We sell our beef by the split-side or side. Contact us for details.
